Instrumental Programs
The School for Strings, New York’s premiere Suzuki-based school offers comprehensive Instrumental Instruction in violin, cello and piano to applicants ages three through eighteen. Instruction includes: Private Lessons, Group Classes, Music Theory, Orchestra and Ensemble Classes. Parents of beginner students attend a special Parent Class.

The School for Strings’ Online Teacher Training Program offers Suzuki-based pedagogy Seminars in violin, cello and piano. Seminars are organized as two-year courses. First year Seminars meet for two hours a week for an in-depth discussion of the Suzuki philosophy and approach and conduct an intensive investigation of the performance and teaching points of the Suzuki materials in books I through III.

The School for Strings Early Childhood Music Program introduces children to the fundamentals of classical music: rhythm, melody, harmony, tempo, dynamics and articulation. In class, children explore instruments, play rhythmic games and learn to move to music. They also develop finger strengthening, physical coordination and fine motor skills by playing games that prepare them for future instrumental study.

The School’s commitment to community service is expressed through its Start Up program, which offers an opportunity for introductory study in violin, cello or piano at a nominal cost. The Program includes lessons, group classes and performance opportunities for students as well as instruction for parents to help them better oversee home practice. This program is part of The School for Strings Online Teacher Training Program. All lessons and classes are taught by teachers in training under the supervision of senior faculty.
